A bikes-only Moggill Ferry and a perfect autumn day combined for an awesome Great Brisbane Bike Ride on Sunday May 7.
Almost 2000 riders set off under light cloud cover to conquer Brisbane’s best bike ride along roads including a closed Inner City Bypass, before crossing the finish line at Davies Park on a brilliantly sunny Brisbane day. A brave 1139 riders took on the Coot-tha Challenge with both the 2016 KOM and QOM – Correy Edmed and Nicky Rolls – returning to successfully defend their titles.
Being granted exclusive use of the Moggill Ferry during the event for the first time ensured wait times were drastically reduced at the river crossing, giving our 110km riders a super smooth ride back to West End. Closer to the city, the Family Fun Ride saw almost 300 riders zip along a 10km course from the Kurilpa Bridge along the Brisbane River before chilling out in the jumping castle and enjoying a spot or two of face painting.
GBBR17 saw over $14,000 raised in support of event beneficiary Diabetes Queensland. BQ wishes to thank the go via network, the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland and Stradbroke Ferries for their support. See you all for GBBR18!
